7 Best Night Markets in Chiang Mai You Should Visit | Budget Itinerary

One of the best things to do in Chiang Mai is probably every foodie’s dream— going on a food trip! And the best place to do that is at night markets which you’ll find abundant in Chiang Mai!

There are a lot of night markets in Chiang Mai but we know that going to all of them is just impossible for a short trip, so we’ve picked out seven Chiang Mai night markets to choose from! Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll probably find it in these night markets. From jewelry to clothes to art, you’ll find something that you will like here. But of course, the highlight of these markets is the array of delicious street foods and cuisines that are offered here.

Another thing about Chiang Mai night markets is the electric ambiance that you’ll be able to feel. The lights are out bright and colorful, and the Thai people’s hospitality just makes you feel so welcomed as if you’ve always belonged here. Prices are cheap here too and are perfect if you want to fill your tummy with good but affordable food!

To be fair though, Thailand is one of the most affordable travel destinations in the world wherein you can spend only $54 a day! If you have just started out with your Thailand trip planning, we recommend you to read our blog where we talked about Thailand’s Cost of Travel this year! It’s a guide for you to follow if you want to go on a budget trip to Thailand!

Now that you’re all set, let’s talk about night markets. So, without further ado, here are the seven best night markets in Chiang Mai!

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

Let’s start big with Chiang Mai’s Night Bazar because this market is literally huge and it’s quite difficult to navigate where this starts and ends. Basically, this night market encompasses a whole neighborhood!

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is what you would expect of a typical night market but double the amount of products. Worrying about the lack of products and items is impossible since there’s so much stuff here! You’ll be able to find travel essentials, skincare products, homeware and furniture, souvenirs, and of course, food!

Walking around Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is a journey on its own so be sure to come as early as 5 PM so you’ll get to go around the area before a crowd builds up!

Location: Intersection of Chang Khlan Road and Loi Khro Road, Chang Moi, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

Opening Hours: PM to midnight, daily.

Tha Phae Sunday Walking Street

The Tha Phae Sunday Walking Street, the most iconic night market in Chiang Mai, is one that you should never miss! If you’re in the area for a short while or over the weekend, you might want to check out Tha Phae.

There are a lot of products sold here like artistic paintings, tote bags, and even real silver jewelry. There are massage areas here too so if you’ve just come back from a full-day trip, getting a foot massage might ease your aches and pains! This 1-kilometer-long night market has so much for you to explore!

Drinking alcohol is not allowed here though since the majority of the area is on temple grounds, so if you want to drink some good beer, check out the licensed bars.

Location: Rachadamnoen Rd, Si Phum, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

Opening Hours: 4 PM to 10.30 PM on Sundays only.

Wua Lai Walking Street

Another one-day-only night market is the Wua Lai Walking Street which is smaller compared to Tha Phae but has a lot more walking space for people who don’t like bumping into people constantly. There are fewer people here but don’t expect it to be empty because you’ll still be able to find tourists and local people exploring the stores and stalls here.

This is definitely one of the best night markets in Chiang Mai to go to if you want to get a cold alcoholic drink since alcohol is allowed here. However, you are only allowed to drink at foodcourts and not on the streets! Still, a cold drink partnered with delicious Thai food is definitely a great treat! One thing you might find interesting at this night market is the talented street performers who, despite their disabilities, really exert effort in entertaining everyone!

Location: Wua Lai Rd, Phra Sing, Mueang Chiang Mai Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

Opening Hours: 4 pm to 10.30 pm, Saturdays only.

Warorot Market (Kad Luang) and Ton Lam Yai Market

If food is what you’re craving, food is what you’ll get here at Warorot Market! You’ll find tons of food options here but the most impressive one is the fresh produce they offer! Nothing beats healthy meals cooked with the freshest ingredients, right?

Warorot Market also has food options for our guilty pleasures like the Keap Moo (crispy pork skin) and the Sai Oua (spicy sausage). After eating, you might want to check out some of the stores located on the second and third floors. There are clothes and accessories sold there for cheap prices which is great for people who are looking to find extra clothes but don’t want to spend a ton of money!

Once you are done exploring Warorot Market you can head on to the Ton Lamyai Market which is located just beside it!

What makes Tom Lam Yai Market different and interesting is that it only sells flowers! Because of this, we can consider this one of the most fragrant and colorful markets in Thailand. Although technically not marketed as a night market, Ton Lam Yai is worth a visit because of the vibrant flowers of all shapes and sizes it got here.

Flowers here are fresh and are perfect if you’re traveling with a loved one or a partner. There are lotus flowers, pussy willows, orchids, and locally-grown roses here that you can order for a bouquet and the best time to visit is early in the morning when the flowers are the freshest! But if you’re not a morning person, no worries because this market is open 24/7.

Location: Wichayanon Rd, Chang Moi, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50300, Thailand

Opening Hours: Warorot Market: 4 PM to 6 PM, daily. Ton Lamyai Market: 24/7.

Anusarn Night Market

Shopping in Chiang Mai is easy, especially at Anusarn Night Market! This night market offers a wide array of arts and crafts, beautifully well-made clothing, and souvenirs too! The space here is much more spacious compared to that of other night markets so there is a lot of room for exploring and just chilling out.

Speaking of chilling out, there are not a lot of food stalls here in Anusarn Night Market where you can chill out. Chill Square, however, is quite near Anusarn so if you ever become hungry or you want to grab some drinks, you can grab some there! There are a lot of food stalls to choose from so you have plenty of options and most of them are quite inexpensive and cheap!

Location: 149, Anusarn market 14-15 Changklan Rd, Tambon Chang Khlan, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

Opening Hours: 5 PM to 11 PM, daily.

Kalare Night Bazaar

The last on our list is the Kalare Night Bazaar which is actually one of our favorites. This night market is located along Chang Klan Road around the night bazaar neighborhood. However, compared to its brothers and sisters, Kalare is much cheaper in terms of food.

For budget travelers like us, we’re all up for good food for less right? And for that, Kalare Night Bazaar is the perfect place! It has a wide array of dishes and of course, they also have the insects on sticks which have gone popular all over the world! For less than 60 Baht, you’ll already get yourself a decent meal and probably more!

The environment here is pretty chill too. There’s a live band performance here which just adds to the great ambiance. If you want to look around, you can check out clothing stores, jewelry stores, and souvenir shops as well!

Location: 89, 2 Changklan Rd, Tambon Chang Moi, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

Opening Hours: 5 PM to 12 AM, daily.
