HC GYM Tallinn Review – The Best Gym in Tallinn

HC Gym Estonia Tallinn
HC GYM at TARTU MNT. 87D

Amongst all the gyms in Tallinn, Estonia, HC GYM provides the best value for the money paid. A monthly 30 days subscription is 39€. You will be shocked by the number of machines and weights that are available. If you’re looking to build muscles properly, HC GYM will allow you to do so. Whether you’re a beginner or a professional bodybuilder there are different types of equipment that will help you to achieve your fitness goals.

Pricing of Gyms in Tallinn

I was in Estonia, Tallinn for around a month and was looking to go to a gym at least 3 times a week. Therefore, I was searching for a monthly membership plan as paying daily will definitely cost much more.

I am looking to exercise on my own with cardio and weight lifting so I chose to find Gyms to go to. A direct competitor to HC GYM from my research is MyFitness gyms. They have multiple outlets in Tallinn, however, the prices are quite high. They also have a sign-up fee of around 30€. I am always quite turned off by these sign-up fees which I find are quite unnecessary.

I am only here for a month so I only need a one-time gym membership. With 30€ spent on sign-up fees at MyFitness, it doesn’t sound right to me.

At HC GYM, I saw their prices for a monthly membership at 39€. You only need to pay 4€ more for the card which can last for 3 years. In total, I spent only 42€ for the 30-day pass. From what I have researched amongst all the gyms this is the cheapest monthly pricing. But the pricing is not the only thing that impressed me.

HC GYM at Tartu Mnt. 87D Review

Here is a video by the company which will show you a rough idea of the gym interior. After this, I will go in-depth into the review of the gym facilities available.

Locker Rooms in HC GYM

Whenever you go to the gym, show your card and they will provide you with a numbered key to access your locker. That is where you can change into your sports attire. Male and female changing rooms are separated. In each changing room, there is also a shower area with warm water. Just some info for those who are more self-conscious, the shower area is shared and not in cubicles so you can “see” each other when bathing.

I like the provision of lockers as I can store my clothes and valuables in them. It is also more organised and safe for my belongings.

Run Down of Areas in HC GYM

I am impressed with this gym as it is a rather complete gym to me. The whole gym is split into different areas specific to the type and muscle group you want to train for. There is an area for stretching, posing, or doing static exercises. There are skipping rope, light weights, yoga mats, Plyo box provided here.

Cardio Area

If you’re looking to train your legs, there are many treadmills, static cycling equipment and even step climbing machine.

Mid Section Abs

Moving on to the mid-body, there are lower back training equipment, sit-up benches and even a neck training machine.

I like that they have special types of equipment that you don’t actually need but are there so that when you progress you can use them. It’s like going to a fully stocked gym operated by a fitness enthusiast.

Main Area Racks, Weighted Machines and Equipment

Then there is this main area where there are racks, free weights and machines. You will be quite lost at what to start with as there are many weighted machines. Some machines also require you to put on your own weight. What I noticed is that there are always at least two of the same machine so you usually don’t have to wait for your turn. A machine will always be available.

Even for racks, there are around 6 different racks to use, if you’re a beginner, there are racks that once you turn, the handle will automatically hook for safety. They even provide chalk which you can use.

Free weights are also available from 2 kg up to 40+kg, I personally only use up to 10kg so I did not really notice the highest weighted dumbell there. This is another thing I like about this gym, you can progress here, they have lighter weights up to very heavy weights for professional bodybuilders.

I personally use Kettlebells and if I am not wrong they provide up to 40kg weight for kettlebells, which is really crazy. Imagine doing kettlebell exercises with a 40kg kettlebell. But for the heavier weights, I only see people doing squats with them. Same for the machines, kettlebells up to 18kg come in pairs so there is no need to share.

Something special that I noticed is that they also have a huge tire, it can be for many uses, and you can flip the tire. Alternatively, get a weighted hammer and use it to strike the tire. This is what I meant about the special thing about this gym, where can you find a huge tire and weighted hammer that not many people will use?

Boxing Area

In the boxing area, you will see a photo of Mike Tyson. There are many photos of fitness legends around the gym as well as many trophies which is good to give you extra motivation. At this corner, there are two large heavy bags that you can punch or kick. There are boxing gloves but through multiple uses, it smells bad. I still use them and proceed to wash my hands after that. You may bring your own gloves too. You can also use a speed bag or medicine ball here.

Who Should Try Out HC GYM?

If you are cost-savvy and are looking for a basic but well-rounded gym that has everything you need to train. The facilities might not be the newest but it is not outdated and it does not affect your training in any way.

But if you’re looking to train in a nicely renovated and willing to pay the higher price then you might consider other places too.

However, give HC Gym a try, they do have a one-day ticket at 3.50€. Take a look at their equipment and facilities and decide from there. I feel that HC Gym is very worth the price you have to pay compared to other gyms in Tallinn.

Ristikheina Cafe has many outlets around Tallinn, but I feel that this outlet at Pelgulinn is the cosiest of all. It feels like a quaint cafe in the middle of nowhere. However, it is not very close to Tallinn Old Town so you might have to spend some time walking here. Alternatively, you can take Bolt which is a car-hiring app like Uber.
